The Johnston County Board of Elections will host a series of Voter Photo ID events this month to help residents prepare for upcoming elections. These events will enable voters to obtain a photo ID at no charge.
Staff from the Board of Elections will be on-site to issue the IDs, which require only a name, date of birth, and the last four digits of a Social Security number. No additional documents are needed. The IDs are valid for ten years. Here's the schedule for the photo ID events:
• Tuesday, September 16 – Selma Library, 301 N. Pollock Street, 2-4 p.m.
• Thursday, September 18 – Benson Library, 100 W. Main Street, 10 a.m.-noon.
• Tuesday, September 23 – Smithfield Library, 305 E. Market Street, 10 am.-noon.
• Friday, September 26 – Kenly Library, 205 E. Edgerton Street, 3-5 p.m.
• Monday, September 29 – Clayton Library, 446 E. Second Street, 2-4 p.m.
Residents unable to attend one of these events may also obtain a free photo ID at the Board of Elections office in Smithfield Monday-Friday 8 a.m.- 5 p.m..
Additionally, no-cost state-issued non-driver IDs are available at NCDMV locations. Under North Carolina law, most voters are required to show a photo ID when casting a ballot in person or by mail. Having an approved ID ensures a smooth process on Election Day.
